An invitation
Kids asleep. Laptops open. Drinks poured.
Your 45-second video sits here.
I'm Katie, mum to Charlie and Olive. Like many parents I know, I ended up being the one in our house who knew where everything was; the kids' details, the policies, the renewal dates, the myGov info.
That's not a system. That's one person's memory, and a whole sorry collection of scattered places.
So I'm building Tribu to fix it. And while I build it, I've been welcoming parents over to my place to do the admin we're all avoiding.
Life admin is unsexy and boring. I must be bonkers, but I've become completely obsessed with making it less so.
I'm building Tribu because I think it will genuinely take weight off parents; the mental load of being the one who knows where everything is, what's due, what's lapsed, and what you've been meaning to sort for months.
That's the product.
This night is the other half of it. If the admin has to get done anyway, I'd rather we did it together, with a drink, than alone at 11pm feeling behind.
If you leave having ticked a few things off your list, had a laugh, connected with other parents and learned something new, that's a win.
The idea is simple; come with three things you've been meaning to sort (aka tasks you've put on your back burner!).
Tasks that can actually be done outside business hours.
Think:
I can't imagine it would take you long to conjure your to-do list!
You arrive, I get you a drink and settled in. Then everyone opens a laptop and we go quiet for a defined period whilst we work on our tasks.
We break, nibble, connect, and do another session.
BYO to-do list, laptop and charger.
I've invited around ten people in Melbourne whose work I've admired from a distance. You've each nurtured a really engaged community, focused on real, positive impact for Australian parents. And I suspect you, like me, find admin a burden, boring, and something you might label ‘a bit out of control’.
I'd love you to bring someone with you. Maybe someone who you think could also contribute to the conversation and have a good time.
I'm launching Tribu soon and I'm deep in the research phase, so understanding how parents actually tackle their admin is incredibly insightful. That part is simple.
The exciting part however is less simple. Tribu deals with some heavy things; what a family needs to do to protect themselves from the unexpected, the mental load of parenthood, the pressure of parenthood, what happens when someone isn't there any more, the bits most of us avoid until we can't.
It has turned out to be far more psychological than I expected.
You each know your corner of this properly, in a way I don't. So I'd love to start a conversation about how your expertise might help Australian parents through the Tribu community.
That's a conversation and exploration, not a commitment and it might come to nothing. Come, get your admin done, have a drink, and we'll see what unfolds!
Also, if you'd like to share the night, I'd love that, and I'd love to share you. Equally, I completely respect your privacy, therefore there is no expectation of this.
